Abstract: Considering the total variation (TV) of the derivative of BV functions as cost term yields that jumps and oscillations of a control will be punished and locally constant functions are preferred. In this presentation we want to analyse BV valued optimal control problems with TV in the object function, subject to the linear wave equation with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. We want to discuss weak and very weak solutions of the wave equation when BV functions are used as distributed controls. Existence and first order optimality conditions will be presented as well.
